FAQs
Consultations & Choosing the Right Treatment
Do I need a consultation before treatment?
Yes. A consultation is an important first step before any injectable or advanced skin treatment. It gives us time to understand your concerns, review your medical history, discuss realistic options and decide whether treatment is suitable for you.
A consultation does not mean you have to go ahead with treatment. It is there to help you make an informed decision in your own time.
Will I be pressured into having treatment on the day?
No. You should never feel pressured into treatment. We want every patient to feel comfortable, informed and confident before deciding whether to proceed.
Some patients choose to have treatment on the day, while others prefer to go away, think about their options and book at a later date.
Who carries out treatments at Taunton Aesthetics?
Treatments at Taunton Aesthetics are carried out by Mary Wilcox, a qualified nurse with a background in medical and surgical nursing.
Mary’s approach is based on patient safety, honest advice, natural-looking results and professional aftercare.
Why choose a nurse-led aesthetics clinic?
Injectable and advanced skin treatments should be approached as clinical procedures, not simple beauty treatments. A nurse-led clinic can provide professional assessment, medical judgement, safer treatment planning and appropriate aftercare.
This is especially important for treatments such as anti-ageing injections, dermal fillers and skin resurfacing, where patient suitability, anatomy and safety must always be carefully considered.
What happens during a consultation?
During your consultation, we will discuss your concerns, treatment goals, medical history, lifestyle, previous treatments and any questions you may have.
You will receive honest advice about which treatments may be suitable, what results can realistically be achieved, possible risks, expected downtime and aftercare.
Can I ask questions before deciding?
Yes. Asking questions is encouraged. We want you to understand your options fully before making any decision about treatment.
You are welcome to ask about the treatment process, products used, possible side effects, recovery time, results, aftercare and alternatives.
Will I be told if a treatment is not suitable for me?
Yes. If a treatment is not suitable, not necessary or unlikely to give the result you are hoping for, we will tell you.
Patient safety and honest advice always come before treatment.

FAQs
Safety, Suitability & Aftercare
Are aesthetics treatments safe?
Aesthetic treatments can be very safe when carried out correctly by an experienced, appropriately trained practitioner. However, no injectable or advanced skin treatment is completely risk-free.
This is why consultation, medical history, product choice, treatment technique and aftercare are so important.
Can everyone have aesthetic treatment?
No. Some treatments may not be suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, currently unwell, taking certain medication, have severe allergies, are on antibiotics, have recently used certain acne medication, or have a medical history that increases risk.
Suitability is always assessed during consultation.
What side effects can happen after treatment?
Common short-term side effects can include redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, itching or slight discomfort around the treatment area.
These effects are usually temporary and settle within a few days. More specific risks will be explained during your consultation depending on the treatment being considered.
Will treatment hurt?
Most treatments involve either small needles, injections or controlled skin stimulation, so some mild discomfort may be felt.
Many patients tolerate treatment well. Where appropriate, numbing cream may be used to make the procedure more comfortable.
How long is the downtime after treatment?
Downtime depends on the treatment. Some treatments have very little downtime, while others may cause redness, swelling, bruising, peeling or tenderness for a few days.
You will be given aftercare advice so you know what to expect and how to look after the treated area.
What should I avoid after injectable treatment?
After injectable treatment, you may be advised to avoid touching the area, applying make-up too soon, intense exercise, alcohol, heat treatments, sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms and certain facial treatments for a short period of time.
Specific aftercare advice will be provided depending on the treatment.
Can I exercise after treatment?
It is usually best to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after injectable treatments.
Exercise can increase blood flow and may increase the risk of swelling or bruising. You will be given treatment-specific advice at your appointment.
Can I wear make-up after treatment?
You may be advised to avoid make-up for a short period after injectable or skin resurfacing treatments to reduce the risk of irritation or infection.
Your practitioner will advise you based on the treatment you have received.
What should I do if I am worried after treatment?
If you have any concerns after treatment, contact Taunton Aesthetics for advice.
You should never feel that you have to manage a concern alone. Aftercare and patient support are an important part of treatment.
FAQs
Anti-Ageing Injections
What are anti-ageing injections?
Anti-ageing injections are used to relax selected facial muscles that contribute to expression lines.
They are commonly used for areas such as frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet.
How do anti-ageing injections work?
Anti-ageing injections work by temporarily relaxing specific muscles. This helps soften lines caused by repeated facial movement.
The aim is to create a fresher, more relaxed appearance while maintaining natural facial expression.
Which areas can anti-ageing injections treat?
Anti-ageing injections may be used to treat areas such as:
- Frown lines
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet
- Bunny lines
- Lip lines
- Gummy smile
- Chin dimpling
- Jaw tension
- Neck bands
- Excessive sweating
Suitability depends on your facial anatomy, medical history and treatment goals.
How soon will I see results from anti-ageing injections?
You may begin to notice results within a few days, but the full effect usually takes around two weeks to develop.
A review appointment may be recommended after treatment, especially if it is your first time having anti-ageing injections.
How long do anti-ageing injections last?
Results vary from person to person, but anti-ageing injections commonly last around three to four months.
Movement gradually returns over time rather than disappearing suddenly.
Will I look frozen?
The aim is not to make you look frozen or overdone. Treatment is carefully planned to soften lines while keeping your result natural and balanced.
The goal is to help you look refreshed, not obviously treated.
Will my wrinkles be worse when the treatment wears off?
No. When the treatment wears off, movement gradually returns and lines will return to how they were before treatment.
Your wrinkles should not become worse because you have had anti-ageing injections.
Do I need a prescribing appointment?
Yes. Anti-ageing injections are prescription-only treatments, so a prescribing consultation is required before treatment where appropriate.
This is an important part of safe and responsible clinical practice.
Can I have anti-ageing injections before a special event?
Yes, but it is best to plan ahead. Anti-ageing injections take time to develop and may require a review.
For weddings, holidays or important events, it is usually better to allow several weeks before the occasion.
FAQs
Dermal Fillers
What is dermal filler?
Dermal filler is an injectable treatment used to restore volume, soften lines, enhance facial balance and improve contour.
Most modern dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the skin and helps retain moisture, hydration and volume.
In dermal filler treatments, hyaluronic acid can be used to support areas where volume has been lost or where subtle enhancement is desired.
What is the difference between anti-ageing injections and dermal fillers?
Anti-ageing injections relax selected muscles to soften lines caused by facial movement.
Dermal fillers add or restore volume, improve contour and soften lines caused by volume loss or facial structure.
Which areas can dermal filler treat?
Dermal filler may be used in areas such as:
- Lips
- Cheeks
- Nasolabial folds
- Marionette lines
- Chin
- Jawline
- Tear troughs
- Hands
- Facial contouring areas
Suitability depends on your individual anatomy and treatment goals.
When will I see dermal filler results?
Dermal filler results are usually visible immediately, although the area may look swollen at first.
The final result is best judged once swelling has settled and the filler has integrated into the tissue.
How long does dermal filler last?
The longevity of dermal filler depends on the product used, treatment area, placement, metabolism and lifestyle.
Some fillers may last several months, while thicker or more structural fillers can last longer.
Will dermal filler look obvious?
Dermal filler should not look obvious when it is carefully planned and placed. The aim is to enhance your natural features, restore balance and avoid an overfilled appearance.
Natural-looking results are always the priority.
Can dermal filler be dissolved?
Hyaluronic acid dermal filler can be dissolved in certain situations using a dissolving treatment.
This may be considered if there is a medical concern or if the result is not aesthetically suitable. Dissolving treatment also carries risks, so it must be properly assessed and discussed.
Can I have dermal filler if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
o. Dermal filler treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
You can book a consultation after this period to discuss suitable treatment options.
Can dermal filler be used for non-surgical rhinoplasty?
Yes, dermal filler can be used in selected cases to improve the appearance of the nose without surgery.
This treatment may help smooth the appearance of a bump, improve symmetry or refine the profile, but it is not suitable for everyone and requires careful assessment.
FAQs
Lip Fillers
What are lip fillers?
Lip fillers are dermal fillers used to add volume, improve shape, enhance definition or restore hydration in the lips.
Treatment can be subtle and natural, depending on your desired result and natural lip shape.
Will lip filler make my lips look too big?
Not when treatment is carefully planned. Lip filler can be used very subtly to restore lost volume, improve symmetry or enhance definition without creating an overdone look.
Your consultation will include a discussion about the result you want to achieve.
Can lip filler look natural?
Yes. Natural-looking lip filler is possible when the right product, amount and technique are used.
The aim is to enhance the lips in a way that suits your face, rather than creating a result that looks out of proportion.
Will my lips swell after filler?
Some swelling is normal after lip filler. Bruising, tenderness and firmness can also occur temporarily.
The lips usually settle over the following days, although full settling can take longer.
How long does lip filler last?
Lip filler longevity varies from person to person. It depends on the product used, your metabolism, the amount placed and your lifestyle.
A maintenance treatment may be recommended when the result gradually reduces.

- Loss of elasticity
- Dullness
- Skin texture

Which areas can Sunekos treat?

It may also be considered for areas where skin appears thinner, crepey, tired or lacking in elasticity.
How many skin booster treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on the product used, your skin condition and your desired result.
A course of treatments is often recommended for best results, followed by maintenance where appropriate.
Are skin boosters the same as dermal fillers?
No. Skin boosters and dermal fillers are different.
Dermal fillers are usually used to restore volume, contour or structure. Skin boosters are used to improve skin hydration, texture and quality.
FAQs
Chemical Peels & Skin Resurfacing
What are chemical peels?
Chemical peels are skin treatments that use carefully selected ingredients to exfoliate the skin and encourage renewal.
They may help improve texture, tone, dullness, congestion, pigmentation, fine lines and overall skin radiance.
Are chemical peels suitable for everyone?
Not always. Suitability depends on your skin type, skin condition, medical history, current skincare routine and treatment goals.
A consultation helps determine which peel, if any, is appropriate for your skin.
Will my skin peel after a chemical peel?
Some peels cause visible peeling, while others create very little visible shedding.
Peeling is not always a sign of effectiveness. The most important factor is choosing the right treatment for your skin.
What should I avoid after a chemical peel?
After a peel, you may be advised to avoid direct sun exposure, active skincare ingredients, exfoliation, heat treatments and intense exercise for a short period.
Daily SPF is especially important after skin resurfacing treatments.
What are AlumierMD peels?

The right peel will depend on your skin concerns and suitability.

It may help soften the appearance of fine lines, improve pores and refresh tired-looking skin.
FAQs
Home Skincare & SPF
Why is home skincare important?
Professional treatments can help improve the skin, but daily home skincare plays an important role in maintaining results and supporting long-term skin health.
A good skincare plan can help with hydration, ageing, pigmentation, acne, sensitivity, dullness, texture and general skin quality.
Do I need medical-grade skincare?
Not everyone needs the same skincare routine. Some patients benefit from professional skincare products because they are carefully selected for specific concerns and treatment goals.
Your skincare plan should be tailored to your skin rather than based on trends.
What is AlumierMD skincare?
AlumierMD is a professional skincare range used to support skin health and target concerns such as ageing, pigmentation, acne, sensitivity, redness, texture and dullness.
Products may include cleansers, exfoliants, serums, antioxidants, retinol, moisturisers and SPF.
Do I need to wear SPF every day?
Yes. Daily SPF is one of the most important steps in protecting your skin and maintaining treatment results.
UV exposure contributes to premature ageing, pigmentation, collagen breakdown and uneven skin tone. SPF should be worn throughout the year, not just on sunny days.
Can skincare help if I am not ready for injectables?
Yes. Skincare, peels, skin boosters and skin resurfacing treatments may be suitable if you want to improve skin quality without starting with injectables such as dermal fillers or anti-ageing injections.
A consultation can help you decide where to begin.
FAQs
Results & Expectations
What kind of results does Taunton Aesthetics aim for?
The aim is to create subtle, balanced and natural-looking results.
A good aesthetic result should help you feel fresher and more confident without making you look overdone or unlike yourself.
Will people know I have had treatment?
The aim is for people to notice that you look well, rested or refreshed, rather than immediately knowing you have had treatment.
Natural-looking treatment should enhance your features without drawing unwanted attention.
Are results guaranteed?
No. Results vary from person to person depending on your anatomy, skin quality, lifestyle, metabolism, treatment choice and how your body responds.
Your consultation will include a realistic discussion about what can and cannot be achieved.
How long before a special event should I book treatment?
It is best to plan well ahead of weddings, holidays, parties or major events.
Anti-ageing injections need time to develop and may require a review. Dermal fillers need time for swelling and bruising to settle. Skin treatments may need a course of sessions for best results.
Can I see before and after examples?
Yes. Before and after images can help you understand the type of results that may be possible.
However, every face is different, and your own result will depend on your anatomy, treatment plan and individual response.
