Cryotherapy Lesion Removal in Taunton
Cryotherapy is a quick, precise treatment used to freeze and remove selected benign skin lesions, including skin tags, warts, age spots, sun spots, cherry angiomas and seborrhoeic keratoses.
At Taunton Aesthetics, cryotherapy treatments are carried out with a careful, assessment-led approach. Before any lesion is treated, we will review the area, discuss your medical history, explain what can realistically be achieved and advise whether treatment is suitable.
For some lesions, further assessment may be recommended before removal. This may include mole mapping with dermoscopic imagery and a dermatologist report, helping us make safe and informed decisions before proceeding.
Suitable for selected benign skin lesions, including skin tags, warts and age spots.
Careful assessment before treatment, with referral or mole mapping where needed.
Quick appointments with clear aftercare and realistic expectations.
Cryotherapy works by applying extreme cold directly to the lesion. This freezes the targeted tissue while keeping treatment focused on the area of concern.
The treated skin may darken, blister, scab or crust before naturally healing. The healing process varies depending on the type of lesion, treatment area, skin type and depth of freezing required.
You will receive clear aftercare advice so you know what to expect, how to care for the area and when to seek further advice if needed.
A Careful Approach to Skin Lesion Removal
Many small skin lesions are harmless but can still be irritating, uncomfortable, cosmetically unwanted or catch on clothing and jewellery. Cryotherapy can be a convenient option for removing suitable lesions without the need for surgical excision.
Because not every lesion should be treated cosmetically, assessment is an important part of the process. If a lesion looks unusual, has changed, is pigmented, bleeding, irregular or requires further review, we may recommend mole mapping, a dermatologist report or medical referral before treatment.
Why Choose Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is often chosen because it is quick, targeted and requires minimal appointment time. It can be suitable for a range of common benign skin concerns where freezing is clinically appropriate.
Your practitioner will explain whether cryotherapy is the right option for your lesion, whether more than one session may be needed and what kind of healing response you should expect.

What Can Cryotherapy Treat?
Skin Tags
Skin tags are small, soft growths that commonly appear around areas such as the neck, underarms, eyelids, chest or areas of friction. Cryotherapy can be used to freeze suitable skin tags so they naturally come away as the area heals.
Warts
Warts are common viral skin growths that can appear on different areas of the body. Cryotherapy can be used to freeze selected warts, although more than one treatment may be needed depending on size, depth and response.
Age Spots and Sun Spots
Age spots, sun spots and pigmentation spots can develop on areas exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands, chest and shoulders. Cryotherapy may be suitable for selected superficial pigmentation lesions following assessment.
Seborrhoeic Keratoses
Seborrhoeic keratoses are common benign growths that can look raised, rough, waxy or stuck onto the skin. Some are suitable for cryotherapy, depending on their size, thickness, position and appearance.
Cherry Angiomas
Cherry angiomas are small red vascular lesions that often appear on the trunk or limbs. Cryotherapy may be suitable for some cherry angiomas following assessment.
Benign Lesion Removal
Cryotherapy can be considered for a number of small benign lesions. Suitability depends on the appearance, location, size, history and whether the lesion needs further assessment before removal.
Mole Assessment and Mapping
Moles require careful consideration before any form of removal. Where appropriate, dermoscopic images can be taken and sent for dermatologist review before a treatment decision is made.
Large or Multiple Small Lesions
If you have a larger lesion or several small lesions, your appointment may need to be planned differently. We will advise on timing, suitability and whether treatment should be staged.

Cryotherapy Treatment Options
Age Spot Removal - Small Area
Suitable for selected small areas of age spots, sun spots or pigmentation spots following assessment. This may be appropriate where the lesion appears benign and suitable for freezing.
Age Spot Removal - Medium Area
A medium area may be recommended where there are larger or more noticeable pigmentation lesions requiring a slightly longer treatment appointment.
Age Spot Removal - Large Area
Larger areas require careful assessment and planning. We will confirm whether cryotherapy is suitable, whether treatment should be staged and what healing response to expect.
CryoPen Lesion Removal - Small
For a small selected lesion such as a skin tag, wart, small seborrhoeic keratosis or other suitable benign lesion.
CryoPen Lesion Removal - Medium
For a medium lesion requiring a more considered treatment time, depending on size, position and lesion type.
CryoPen Lesion Removal - Large or Multiple Small
Suitable where there is a larger lesion or several small lesions that can be safely treated within one appointment.
Mole Mapping with Dermatologist Report
Mole mapping uses dermoscopic imagery taken by your practitioner and sent for expert dermatologist review. You will receive a report by email, usually within 48 hours.
This can be booked as a standalone appointment or used alongside cryotherapy planning where a lesion needs further assessment before removal.

Mole Mapping and Dermatologist Review
Mole mapping is an important option when a lesion needs a closer clinical opinion before treatment. Dermoscopic images allow the lesion to be viewed in more detail and reviewed alongside your history and any relevant changes you have noticed.
This is particularly useful for moles or pigmented lesions where safe removal should not be based on appearance alone.
Your dermatologist report helps guide whether a lesion can be treated, whether monitoring is recommended or whether referral for further medical assessment is more appropriate.
A Nurse-Led Approach to Cryotherapy
At Taunton Aesthetics, lesion removal is approached carefully and professionally. The aim is not simply to remove anything a patient asks about, but to assess whether treatment is suitable and safe.
We will ask about how long the lesion has been present, whether it has changed, whether it bleeds, itches or causes discomfort, and whether you have any relevant medical history.
If we are not confident that cryotherapy is appropriate, we will explain why and recommend the safest next step.
Cryotherapy
How it Works
1. Consultation and Assessment
We begin by assessing the lesion, discussing your concerns and reviewing your medical history. We will ask about changes in size, colour, shape, bleeding, itching or irritation.
2. Suitability Check
Your practitioner will decide whether cryotherapy is suitable. If the lesion needs further review, mole mapping or referral may be recommended before treatment.
3. Treatment Planning
We will explain the expected treatment time, likely healing response, possible need for repeat treatment and any risks such as blistering, scabbing, colour change or scarring.
4. Cryotherapy Treatment
Extreme cold is applied precisely to the lesion. Treatment usually only takes a short time, although the exact duration depends on the lesion type, size and treatment area.
5. Healing Response
The area may become red, swollen, darker, blistered or scabbed. This is part of the normal healing process and will be explained during your appointment.
6. Aftercare Advice
You will be advised how to keep the area clean, avoid picking, protect the skin and what to do if you have concerns during healing.
What to Expect After Cryotherapy
After cryotherapy, the treated area may feel tender or sting for a short time. Redness, swelling, blistering, crusting or scabbing can occur depending on the depth of treatment and the area treated.
It is important not to pick the area while it heals, as this can increase the risk of marking or scarring. Some lesions may need more than one treatment, and some may recur over time.
Healing times vary. Areas such as the face may heal more quickly, while areas on the lower legs or places exposed to friction can take longer.

Aftercare Guidance
Keep the Area Clean
Follow the aftercare advice given at your appointment. The area should be kept clean and protected while healing.
Avoid Picking or Scratching
Allow any blister, crust or scab to settle naturally. Picking can delay healing and may increase the risk of scarring or pigmentation change.
Protect from Friction
A plaster or dressing may be helpful if the area is likely to rub against clothing, shoes or jewellery.
Expect Some Skin Reaction
Redness, swelling, tenderness, blistering or scabbing can be normal after cryotherapy. Your practitioner will explain what is expected for your treatment area.
Watch for Signs of Infection
If you experience increasing pain, spreading redness, pus, heat or feel unwell after treatment, seek medical advice.
Use Sun Protection
If you have a skin tag, wart, age spot, sun spot or other lesion you would like removed, the first step is a professional assessment.
At Taunton Aesthetics, we will advise whether cryotherapy is appropriate, whether mole mapping or dermatologist review is needed, and what outcome is realistic for your skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a treatment that uses extreme cold to freeze selected skin lesions. It is commonly used for suitable benign lesions such as skin tags, warts, age spots, sun spots and seborrhoeic keratoses.
What is CryoPen?
CryoPen is a precision cryotherapy device used to apply cold directly to the treatment area. It allows targeted treatment of suitable lesions with minimal disruption to the surrounding skin.
What can cryotherapy remove?
Cryotherapy may be suitable for selected skin tags, warts, age spots, sun spots, pigmentation spots, cherry angiomas and seborrhoeic keratoses. Suitability is confirmed after assessment.
Can you remove moles?
Moles require careful assessment before any treatment. Mole mapping with dermoscopic imagery and a dermatologist report may be recommended before deciding whether removal is suitable.
What is mole mapping?
Mole mapping uses dermoscopic images taken by your practitioner and sent for dermatologist review. The report helps guide whether the lesion is suitable for treatment, monitoring or referral.
How long does the dermatologist report take?
The dermatologist report is usually returned within 48 hours and sent to you by email.
Is cryotherapy painful?
You may feel a sharp cold, stinging or burning sensation during treatment. This is usually short-lived, although tenderness can continue afterwards depending on the lesion and treatment area.
What happens after treatment?
The area may become red, swollen, blistered, darker, crusted or scabbed before healing. This is a normal response to freezing and will be explained during your appointment.
Will I be told the cost before treatment?
Yes. Treatment costs can vary depending on your consultation and personalised plan, but we will explain pricing before you decide whether to proceed.
Will I need more than one treatment?
Some lesions respond after one session, while others may need repeat treatment. This depends on the type, size, depth and location of the lesion.
Can the lesion come back?
Yes, some lesions can recur even after treatment. Your practitioner will explain this during your consultation.
Will cryotherapy leave a scar?
Scarring is possible with any lesion removal treatment, although not everyone will scar. Skin colour changes, lightening or darkening can also occur, particularly in some skin types or treatment areas.
Can I pick the scab after treatment?
No. It is important to allow the area to heal naturally. Picking can increase the risk of delayed healing, infection, scarring or pigmentation changes.
Can I have cryotherapy on my face?
Cryotherapy may be suitable for some facial lesions, but the area must be assessed carefully. Some lesions or positions may require alternative advice.
Is cryotherapy suitable for everyone?
No. Suitability depends on your lesion, skin type, medical history, treatment area and whether further assessment is needed.
